Access to the materials of the National Library of Korea

The National Library of Korea opened its doors in 1945. This Library not only provides millions of Korean books written in Hangul, and in many foreign languages, but collects Korean national treasures and organizes the training of Korean librarians too. Their digital library was launched in 2009 for optimal access, and today the number of digitized documents is over 9 million.

Two levels of access are provided to digitized materials.

- Free use applies to materials with expired copyright or freely available materials

- Use of copyrighted material is through a partnership agreement. These contents are only available on designated PCs within the partner libraries.

Use of digitized files

You can browse the digitized materials on the library's website in the Search menu item in the Digitized resource submenu. Here, you can access the documents by pressing the Full text button of the search results.

To retrieve specific content, it is worth using the search interface on the main page.

The system does not allow access to documents that are limited under the partner agreement, they can only be viewed on the partner institution's delegated machine.

To view the documents, the exe file offered in the pop-up window must be installed for the first time (nlviewer_setup_onlineNet.exe) then we can access the content with another full-text click.

Partner institution agreement

In December 2022, EKSZ initiated ELTE becoming a partner institution at the National Library of Korea. This partnership agreement was concluded by the beginning of February 2023, so the copyrighted content is now available in the Kazinczy Street reading room in ELTE PPK during opening hours.
