Farewell to László Klein

László Klein started working in the Library of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of Eötvös Loránd University in 2004, where he also provided processing and reading services. He built a detailed knowledge on databases used by the university, and provided the presentation of the databases, as well as he did the management of the Hungarian Library of Scientific Works. It was quite an effective assistance to students, lecturers and researchers.

ELTE awarded his selfless services with several honors. But the greatest praise came from the students, who highlighted Laci’s extraordinary expertise and his amazing helpfulness in every reader survey.

He studied intercultural psychology and pedagogy with an adult head, which brought him even closer to a diverse audience and Humanity. He used the knowledge he gained there at work and in everyday life. His research interests included postcultural media (fanzine, samizdat), countercultural movements and the sociology of reading among deviant people.

He was the founding editor of Literature Strikes Back. His writings have appeared on the pages of Terasz, Irodalmi Jelen, Litera, prae.hu, Scientific and Technical Information (TMT) and Metal Hammer Hungarica, among others.

He was particularly interested in Jewish culture and traditions, even if he himself did not observe religious rites or obligations. He summarized his interest in the local history of Judaism and Szentendre in a dissertation, which he is unfortunately no longer able to submit to Eötvös Loránd University.

On 13 December 2021 in Szentendre, in the public cemetery on Sztaravoda út, his family members, friends and admirers said goodbye to László Klein, an employee and researcher at the Library of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of Eötvös Loránd University, who died at the age of 47.

Laci, goodbye...
